As most of us know, Alix is a chocolate lover and has written a very cool blog about how to make your own healthy iced mocha and talks about some of the health benefits of chocolate. Chocolate is just one of those comforting foods that can lift your mood, take care of that sugar fix, or be a cure for that time of the month ups and downs. I have a feeling we will be sharing many recipes that involve chocolate.

Easy Chocolate Dessert
-Step By Step-

Step 1: Gather your tools

You will need a mixing bowl, oven safe bowl, fork and/or whisk, sauce pan, and your Mora Ceramics dessert bowls or large muffin tin/ 8x8 pan.

Step 2: Make sure you have all 4 ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 33 Oreos
  • 1.5 c. heavy cream
  • 1.5 c. chocolate for melting
  • Optional toppings: Instant coffee, 1 c. heavy cream (for whipped cream), 1/2 c. Powdered sugar, 8 oz cream cheese, ready whip or cool whip, perhaps some chocolate for drizzling.

Step 3: Hit pause and start the process

about 33 oreos in 4 tablespoons of melted butter

Now that you are mentally and physically ready, let's make this easy melt in your mouth chocolate dessert. Funny story as a side point; I remade the dessert for photos a second time. I had some finished desserts along with one bowl that had my cooling Oreo crust. I had told my roommate to help herself. I asked her what she thought, and she said it was good and started recommending some delicious topping ideas. As I was looking at the color of her dessert bowl I said, was it a little warm and mushy? Did it sort of taste like buttery Oreos? "Yes." she replied. Well she had just eaten my freshly made Oreo crust minus the chocolate ganache or toppings.

Here it goes: First you will want to melt your butter. I feel like the melted butter helps break up the Oreos a little better than room temperature butter. I plopped my 33 Oreos in my kitchen aid mixer, poured the melted butter over them, and mixed on medium until the Oreos had blended with the butter turning into a crust like texture. You may need to still break up some of the bigger cookie chunks.

Divide the crust evenly (about 1/3 c. per bowl) in your 6 dessert bowls, or dish of your choice. Allow the crust to cool in the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Step 4: Make the filling

While your Oreo crust is cooling a little, we can start the ganache. On a low stove setting warm up your heavy cream in your sauce pan. Turn off the heat and add your chocolate for melting. I used Ghirardelli 70% dark chocolate chips. Use your whisk and mix until the chocolate is smooth and blended. Pour your chocolate ganache over your Oreo Crust.

Pour your freshly melted ganache over your oreo crust in your mora ceramics dessert bowl before putting it in the refrigerator to set.

Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour or until the ganache has set. Make sure to taste test the chocolate.😉

Step 5: The optional toppings

This dessert turns into sort of a fudgy chocolate bar with an Oreo crust. It is very rich and depending on the chocolate you choose can be sweet. Here are some topping ideas for you to try out if you would like.

  1. Ready Whip or Cool Whip
  2. My cream cheese whipped cream topping
  3. Coffee whipped cream (I'll share the recipe for this one)
  4. Crumbled Oreo cookies and or pretzels
  5. Vanilla Ice Cream
  6. Chocolate and or Caramel Drizzle
  7. M&M's, sprinkles, or chocolate chips
  8. Any topping your heart desires

Coffee Whipped Cream Recipe

1 C heavy cream

3/4 c. powdered sugar

1tsp instant coffee (I used half a package of Starbucks via dark roast)

Using your mixer or kitchen aid, combine these 3 ingredients and mix on high until the whipped cream starts to peak. You will notice the texture start to change and become thicker. Be careful not to over blend. This step should only take 2 to 3 minutes unless you are mixing by hand.

The Finished Easy
Chocolate Dessert

The simple version of the dessert needs only 4 ingredients and makes a perfect last minute party option. You can make it into bars or little individual desserts. Using my Mora Ceramics dessert bowls it is about 2 to 3 servings per bowl which would be perfect for a date night sharable dessert. Unless you are really craving chocolate, then maybe one serving. It's ok, you don't have to share unless you want to.

We love sharing recipes with you and hope that as you cook with us you remember to slow down and hit pause. Self-care is so important and we all need to recharge sometimes. Don't forget the chocolate!
